CD - Got That Style - Grace Kuch - Single

A celebrated regular on the blues festival circuit, guitarist/singer Grace Kuch breaks new ground with “Got That Style,” a tribute to and collaboration with blues legend Ronnie Earl. At a very young age, Kuch distinguished herself at renowned venues such as the Memphis International Blues Challenge, Greeley Blues Jam, King Biscuit Blues Festival, and Big Blues Bender. Now an experienced artist, she teams with a roster of renowned musical talents, including Earl, on this newly released original track.
“Got That Style” showcases not only Kuch’s guitar and vocal talent, but a reverence for a genre. She describes it as a “love song to Earl’s style of music.” In an homage she co-wrote with Joe Schicke, Kuch sings, “He’s a cat with a cool streak / he’s got a mojo hand / when he rips on that guitar, I know you’re really gonna understand.” The song delivers what it promises, featuring the shrewd riffs and solos of Earl himself.
The blues festival circuit brought Kuch and Earl together. In a chance backstage meeting in Vegas, after asking her to sit in with him there and at future festivals, he offered to provide a guitar track if Kuch wanted to collaborate on a recording. She couldn’t pass up this offer from an artist that The Boston Phoenix called “Perhaps the finest living blues guitarist on the planet.” Little did anyone know at the time that it would become a remote collaboration project. The songwriting down to the mixing, all of which Kuch was involved deeply. The ensuing project was first recorded in Colorado with remote contributions from Earl and another prodigious musician, Red Young, from Austin, Texas. Earl recorded tracks and sent them to Stout Studios in Fort Collins, CO. Kuch worked closely with engineer Darren Radach to produce the final sound. In addition to Earl’s guitar, the song features the incomparable Steve Amedee on drums, Taylor Tesler on bass, Schicke on rhythm guitar, and Young on Wurlitzer and organ. The result is a layered composition with a bluesy ease, New Orleans swing, and a more than a hint of attitude. It’s truly a collaboration made in blues heaven.
